This weekend will mark the 2nd annual Owego Fallen Firefighters Golf Tournament at The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin. Over 228 golfers are participating in this year’s event, with money raised from the tournament being used for scholarships and the fire department’s training facility. Two recipients of a $1,000 scholarship to pursue higher education in a fire or EMS field will be announced at this week’s awards night at Owego Free Academy. Over 100 sponsors and donors contributed to this year’s event. Saturday’s event will honor the losses the Owego Fire Department has experienced in the past, including firefighters Matt Porcari, Steve Gavin, Richard Beck, Winfield Knapp, and Roy Wiltse.
