A tractor trailer spilled close to 75 gallons of diesel fuel on Route 17 last night. According to New York State Police, the driver of the truck veered onto the shoulder in the passing lane and started to jack-knife. The driver was able to correct his steering, but a roadside sign punctured his gas tank in the process, resulting in the fuel spill. The incident took place in the Nichols area. Cleanup crews were able to use drying agents to absorb most of the fuel but it took about three hours for the scene to be safe. No tickets were issued in the crash.
