Matthew Porcari of Owego was one of 107 fallen firefighters honored yesterday at the 2014 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. The service took place at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Porcari died from injuries he sustained when he fell through the floor while fighting a fire on January 22, 2013. This annual tribute is sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s U.S. Fire
Administration. More than 5,000 people attended, including members of Congress, senior-level federal officials and other dignitaries, members of the fire service, and families, friends and coworkers of the fallen firefighters.
