The Village of Owego Board voted in favor of moving forward with the grant application necessary for the dissolution of the Owego Police Department. After a vote of 5-2 along party lines with Mayor Steve May and his party in favor, the grant application will now be considered at a special meeting of the Tioga County Legislature tomorrow at 1pm. The grant application needs the county’s co-signature to be submitted to the New York Department of State for review. The grant would be necessary to cover the initial costs of any attempt to consolidate the OPD into the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.
