Town of Owego water customers are being asked to limit their water usage until further notice. Several days of hot weather and a lack of precipitation have left the area with drought-like conditions, and the National Weather Service does not expect any significant precipitation to arrive anytime soon. In addition, the DEC has issued a “drought watch” for the state. Water levels in town wells have dropped 15 percent since May. The Owego Utilities Department says they may upgrade these restrictions to “mandatory” if conditions worsen. You can read the full drought watch issued by the DEC online at www.dec.ny.gov.
