A special ceremony was held Friday to unveil a new historic marker at 106 McMaster Street in Owego. The former home of Army Corporal Margaret Hastings will now be remembered forever. The woman gained national attention when she survived a plane crash in New Guinea during World War II. The event was organized by Tioga County Historian Emma Sedore. Several local elected officials were also in attendance for the ceremony. This is the only historic marker in Tioga or Broome counties that honors a woman veteran.
