Today is the first day of school at many local districts, including Owego-Apalachin, where new district Superintendent Corey Green has a message for parents.

“We’re extremely excited to have your children back in school,” he said on the WEBO Morning Show today. “We’ve got a lot of new initiatives and there should be plenty of excitement for them around everything that happens on a day-to-day basis as well as enrichment programs that we can offer after school.”

One of those new initiatives will give district iPads to all students in grades four through 12. Green says it is just another way for the district to reach students with 21st century learning techniques.

“It just makes it so innovative and so exciting,” he told WEBO. “We all see (students) with devices in their hands most of the time, and this is a great opportunity for us to prepare them for the future.”

Superintendent Green was a guest on today’s WEBO Morning Show. He says younger students in grades K-3 won’t get their own iPad, but every classroom will have them available for use during the school day. The full interview with the superintendent is available online at newsradiowebo.com.
