It has been five years since the Flood of 2011. Wednesday marked the day the rain started falling around the area and Thursday was the day most people woke up to see the floodwaters throughout downtown Owego. They wouldn’t recede for a few days, causing massive destruction in the village and in other areas along the Susquehanna River. The damage can still be seen in some of the most hard-hit areas, even five years later. Efforts are still being made on flood mitigation in the Southern Tier, and today is a reminder that you should have an emergency plan in place in case another flood hits our area. WEBO is the official emergency radio station for Tioga County.
