Owego-Apalachin Middle School students are taking part in a worldwide initiative this week. Sandy Stiles, the Owego Middle School Librarian, told us about the Hour of Code initiative.
“Hour of Code was a worldwide initiative started by Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg,” she told WEBO. “The reason was because there were so many jobs in the United States going unfilled in IT and specifically in computer programming.”
Owego Middle School science classes will be meeting in the library this week to learn a basic computer programming language with fun, age-appropriate software. Stiles says that she hopes to create a school program where students can continue pursuing interests in programming after this week.
