The Owego-Apalachin Central School District will hold a first-of-its-kind training for all transportation employees this week to help make them aware and address the needs of LGBTQ students. The 60 district bus drivers and other transportation employees will take part in the 90-minute training on Wednesday. They will be the first local district to take part in such a training. New York Association for Pupil Transportation, or NYAPT, Executive Director Peter Mannella says as gender-related issues emerge in society and in schools, those who work to safely transport students each day need to be aware of these issues and the best ways to address the needs of all students.
