Fallen hero and Owego native Charles “Charlie” Bilbrey, Jr. was inducted into the New York Senate Veterans Hall of Fame in Albany yesterday. He was nominated for the honor by Senator Fred Akshar. Bilbrey, a specialist in the Army, was killed with two others by an IED in 2007 after volunteering to secure a roadway in Iraq. Charlie enlisted in the Army after graduating from Owego Free Academy and was 21 years old when he was killed in action. His parents, Charles, Sr. and Barbara, accepted the honor in Albany. We have shared a video with Senator Akshar talking to Charlie’s parents on the WEBO Facebook page.
