The Bradford County Commissioners presented the 2026 county budget which includes a proposed tax increase for the first time in over a decade.

The proposed $77.5 million dollar spending plan includes a 15.6 percent property tax increase.

The county real estate tax millage rate will increase from 10.43 to 12.055 mills.

This is the first time since 2009 that the budget includes a tax increase.

The commissioners noted the increase in expenses, inflation and both the state and federal budget delays have all contributed to the tax increase.

The commissioners are expected to vote on the budget at their meeting on Dec. 11.
