A bill to allow professional Mixed Martial Arts in New York State has been passed by the state Senate, and will now be heading to the Assembly for the fifth time. Amateur MMA fighting is allowed within the state, but currently fighters are forced to leave New York if they wish to partake in professional matches. Opponents to the bill have questioned the safety of MMA in the past, while those in favor say that New York is missing out on money that the sport could be bringing into the state. The deadline for the vote by the Assembly is June 19th.
