The Veterans Day event in Owego took place yesterday. A ceremony to honor vets, those missing in action, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice was held at the Tioga County Veterans Memorial outside of the Tioga County Courthouse. Here’s Jim Raftus from the ceremony yesterday. Four veterans who are more than 90-years-old were present. The guest speaker was Jerry Marsh, who wrote a book called The Brotherhood of Battle that looks at the lives of Civil War soldiers and their families from Newark Valley. In Tioga County, more than 2,000 people fought in the Civil War. Veterans living at Riverview Manor nursing home in Owego were honored on Tuesday as well.
