A 58-year-old Athens man is facing several charges in connection with a fatal motorcycle accident in Nichols last month.
According to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, Jack S. Lineburg has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, a Class B felony, aggravated vehicular assault, a Class C felony, driving while intoxicated, and other related charges after the crash on Sept. 16.
Lineburg was allegedly driving his car at high speeds while intoxicated on West River Road in Nichols when he hit a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle. The motorcycle was driving in the same direction as Lineburg and had stopped to turn when the crash occurred.
The operator of the motorcycle, 64-year-old Calvin H. Pierce of Barton, and its passenger, a woman from Ulster, were ejected from the bike. Both were transported to the Robert Packer Hospital in critical condition,
Pierce died from his injuries on Sept. 17. The passenger is currently in stable condition.
Lineburg was previously convicted of driving while intoxicated in New York State within the past 10 years. He will appear in the Town of Nichols Court at a later date.
