The City of Binghamton is preparing down a long vacant building.

According to city officials, the building at 263 Washington Street has become a serioust safety concern.

The building has sat empty for years right in the heart of the city’s business and arts district.

The property owner was recently found guilty of dozens of code violations following a lengthy legal battle.

Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham has given the property owner until Tuesday to demolish the building or the city will step in and carry out the demolition.

If the city takes over the demolition, the cost will be billed to the property owner.
