The Centertown Parking Garage in Elmira will now have 24-hour security.

The LECOM Event Center and Centertown Social have teamed up to pay for the around the clock security.

The security personnel will be paid for privately with no expense to the taxpayers.

A side-by-side patrol vehicle will be utilized for security.

Capriotti Properties also recently donated $4,000 to the City of Elmira to install security cameras in the parking garage.

Here is a statement from the LECOM Event Center Facebook page:

O OUR COMMUNITY — BECAUSE WE CARE.
The owners of the LECOM Event Center and Centertown Social believe deeply in downtown Elmira—and we are committed to doing our part to make it a safer, more welcoming place for everyone.
Together, we are privately funding 24-hour, in-person security for the parking garage and surrounding campus. Our security team will also soon have access to a side-by-side utility vehicle, giving them greater mobility to patrol the area and assist our guests, employees, neighboring businesses and community members.
This initiative comes at no cost to taxpayers. It is being fully funded by the ownership of Centertown Social and the LECOM Event Center because we believe investing in our community means taking meaningful action.
As more concerts, sporting events, family shows and visitors come to downtown Elmira, we want people to feel confident and comfortable spending time here.
We are proud of the progress happening downtown, grateful to be part of it and committed to helping build an even stronger future for Elmira.
