An Ithaca woman will spend years in state prison for her role in a fatal crash in 2023.
According to the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office, 43-year-old Juria Vanness was sentenced to 2 1/3 to 7 years in state prison for causing the crash that killed 25-year-old Millport resident Alexei Seymour.
Vanness was driving with a revoked license and was impaired by methamphetamine when the accident occurred on Oct. 26, 2023.
According to the New York State Police, Vanness tried to pass a pickup truck with a trailer being driven by the victim. Vanness hit the trailer and caused both vehicles to cross into the opposite lane and into the path of an oncoming semi truck.
Seymour was pronounced dead at the scene. Vanness was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.
Vanness was arrested in 2025 and pleaded guilty to the vehicular manslaughter charge in February.
