Firefighters in Binghamton responded to a house fire early this morning. Just before six o’clock this morning, the call came for a fire at an apartment home at 34 Pearne Street in the city. When firefighters first arrived on the scene, there were heavy flames coming out of two windows on the second floor. Everyone was able to make it out of the apartment by the time crews had arrived. The upstairs apartment, which housed six people, suffered significant damage, and at this time fire officials are saying that apartment has been destroyed. According to the Assistant Fire Chief for Binghamton, the fire appeared to have started in a child’s bedroom upstairs, with the fire contained to that bedroom and the living room. Two people also lived in an apartment on the first floor, which received water damage. The flames took about thirty minutes to extinguish. Binghamton’s Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
