A jury found a Binghamton man guilty of attempted murder in the second degree. Thursday in Broome County Court, 54-year-old Ralph Townshend was convicted of the charge, along with assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. Townshend was on trial following an incident in August of 2012 when police say they found Townshend stabbing his girlfriend at the home at 6 Miles Street in Binghamton. Townshend was shot twice in the back as police tried to stop the attack. His girlfriend, 39-year-old Eileen Montagno was hospitalized and survived. Townshend now faces a sentencing of between eight to 25 years for the attempted murder and assault charges, and three to seven years on the weapons charge.
