A Binghamton police officer had to be sent to the hospital after a Broome County Transit bus struck his patrol car Friday afternoon. The patrolman and another officer in a separate car were traveling east on Court Street with their lights and sirens activated when the BC Transit bus struck one of the cars on its passenger side at the intersection of Court and Carrol streets. The officers were reportedly responding to a call of a man down and unresponsive. The damage to the car was contained to just the passenger side, and the airbags did deploy. The patrolman’s identity was not released, nor was the severity of his injuries, but he was taken to Wilson Hospital for treatment. Thirteen passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash, and a child and adult passenger each had to be taken to the hospital for injuries as well. The investigation is ongoing.
