Through an effort to crack down on welfare fraud, Broome County Executive Debbie Preston and other county officials announced that they have managed to save a total of $9.6 Million. The money in potential future payments was saved after the county reviewed the cases of over 12,000 individuals either currently on welfare or applying for the service. $2 million of that money would have come from taxpayers in Broome County alone. County officials say that they will continue to crack down on fraud.
