A robbery that eventually turned into a homicide on Binghamton’s South Side last year has resulted in two men being indicted. 40-year-old Nigel Smith and 36-year-old Calvin Bell, both of Binghamton, were named in the indictment as co-defendants for multiple charges, including first and second degree robbery and second-degree murder, for the June death of 44-year-old Bretnie Owens. Both men are accused of causing Owens’ death while committing a robbery at her Stone Street apartment. If convicted of the second-degree murder charge, both Smith and Bell could be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
