Family members, friends, and co-workers gathered this weekend to say their final goodbyes to former Broome County Sheriff Anthony Ruffo. On Saturday, several people gathered inside the Parish of Saints John and Andrew for Ruffo’s funeral. Ruffo had served as sheriff for ten years after he was assumed this position back in 1980. Before he was the county’s sheriff, he was a police officer for thirty years for the Binghamton Police Department, and prior to that, served in the Army during World War II. Ruffo passed away last week at the age of 89. According to family members, he had been battlling Alzheimer’s disease at the time of his death. He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City.
