The Vestal Fire Department is looking to replace its current Fire Station Number 4 if the town will approve paying for a new $4.5 million facility. The Number 4 station was originally constructed in 1952 on a fill, and as the building has settled, cracks and other structural problems have occurred. Regardless of the structural problems, the building would still require changes to be in line with modern building code. One issue the building currently has is that the bathrooms are only on the second floor, a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Town of Vestal is awaiting more detailed plans from the fire department on a potential construction plan of a new building before any further steps are taken.
