Tioga County Sheriff’s Office warns public about new scam

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office said it is aware of a scam where individuals make contact via phone and identify themselves as a Sergeant from the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.

The scammers inform the victim that they have been indicted in Grand Jury and there is now a warrant for their arrest.

The scammers will then request payment to clear up the warrant.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office will never request money from individuals over the phone.

If someone claims to be a Law Enforcement Officer and demands money you should hang the phone up immediately and report the details to the Sheriff’s Office at 607-687-1010.
