After close to two years of being closed and four months of repair, the Candor Bridge will be open for use on beginning at 11 o’clock today. The bridge was in need of repair for years, and after the New York State Department of Transportation took a second look at the bridge following the flood of September 2011, it was decided that the bridge needed to be replaced. The village was not supposed to see the new bridge until 2014, but the project was fast-tracked allowing it to be done in time for the school season. Construction for the bridge began in March and cost approximately $2.75 million. Federal funds paid for 80 percent of the project with the state picking up the remaining 20 percent. The bridge re-opening, in addition to increasing traffic past village businesses in Candor, will also allow for faster response time from the town’s ambulances, as the Candor Emergency Squad is located at the base of the bridge.
