Multiple fire crews in Tioga County responded to a garage fire in Nichols Monday morning. Just after 9 o’clock, crews from Nichols, Tioga Center, Owego, and Southside responded to a well-involved fire on East River Road. Firefighters had to work to release smoke and heat from inside the building, which contained a number of dangerous items including volatile chemicals, a welding unit, pressurized air tanks and tires. Crews were able to put out the fire within two hours and had cleared the scene by early afternoon. No injuries were reported.
