Veterans Memorial Park in Owego is set to get some upgrades with the help of a local resident. The monuments in front of the Tioga County courthouse honor the county’s men and women who were killed in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. Bill Chandler has worked to update the monuments and erect new monuments. Concrete is expected to be poured today as the improvements get underway. There will be three new monuments including an additional World War II stone, one for modern warfare, and another in the center for the park to honor recipients of the Medal of Honor. Two additional flag poles will also be erected to fly the American flag, with the five existing flag poles displaying flags from each branch of the military. The project is expected to be complete by Memorial Day.
