It’s been almost a year since the Village of Owego passed its moratorium on hydrofracking, and now the village is looking for an extension of the ban. The village is reportedly looking to extend the moratorium by six months. Mayor Kevin Millar says an extension of the moratorium would act as a safeguard for the village in the event that New York State gave approval to the natural gas drilling practice. The extension would also give the village more time to study and review the environmental issues while revising their comprehensive plan on fracking. The village will meet on Monday to discuss the possibility of an extension.
