Monday marked a day of remembrance for those who have served or are serving our country, and in Owego, the tradition of honoring Tioga County’s veterans continued. Beginning at 9 o’clock Monday morning, the reading of the names of the county’s lost veterans began, about 170 names in all. Monday also marked the unveiling of updated war memorials in Owego’s courthouse square. Owego resident and Marine Corps veteran Bill Chandler worked extensively over the past several months to design upgrades, raise money, and perform work on the memorials. Chandler said a number of people in the community contributed, even if they were unable to afford a donation. The updated memorials include about 50 new names for Tioga County residents who served in World War II and modern warfare.
