Corning woman facing drug, weapon charges following traffic stop

A Corning woman is facing several drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop last week.

According to the New York State Police, 40-year-old Kellie Kelly has been charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of an ammunition feeding device and tampering with evidence.

State troopers initiated a traffic stop at around 1:47 a.m. on Thursday, March 5 on County Route 105 in the Town of Avoca.

During the stop it was learned that Kelly had a suspended license and had multiple outstanding warrants from the Corning Police Department, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.

Troopers said they found around 30 grams of meth, a .223 caliber semi-automatic assault-style rifle and two large capacity ammunition feeding devices and ammunition.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
