WAVERLY, N.Y. — Former Waverly Mayor Patrick Ayres was remembered during this year’s Tioga State Bank Car Show with a special tribute recognizing his longtime dedication to the annual event.
Organizers presented Ayres’ family with a plaque designating his 1972 MG convertible as “Forever Registered #1.”
Friends say Ayres faithfully registered his car first each year and was often among the first to greet fellow participants with a smile as they arrived for the show.
Ayres, who served as mayor of Waverly and was a familiar face in the community, passed away in April 2026.
The recognition ensures his tradition of being the car show’s first registered participant will continue as a lasting tribute to his contributions and his passion for the event.
